Two Sulphur Residents Killed in DeQuincy Crash; Driver Arrested on Vehicular Homicide Charges
Louisiana State Police say a pickup truck struck an SUV slowing to turn into a driveway Friday night. The driver faces two counts of vehicular homicide.

DEQUINCY, La. — Two Sulphur residents were killed Friday night after a pickup truck struck their SUV on Louisiana Highway 389 near DeQuincy. Louisiana State Police identified the driver as Dylan Havens, 26, who faces two counts of vehicular homicide, along with careless operation and speeding.

The crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. October 30 on Louisiana Highway 389, east of Hargrove Loop Road. Investigators say Havens was driving a Chevrolet Silverado westbound when he struck the rear of a Jeep SUV slowing to turn left into a private driveway. Both vehicles left the roadway following the collision.

The Jeep’s occupants, a 52-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man from Sulphur, were both wearing seat belts. The woman died at the scene, while the man was transported to a hospital, where he later died. Their identities were not released in the State Police announcement.

Troopers reported that Havens showed signs of impairment during the investigation. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. Investigators obtained a warrant for a toxicology sample, which was submitted for analysis. Havens was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center after his release from the hospital.

Beauregard Parish Sheriff Mark Herford confirmed Havens was off duty at the time of the crash and expressed condolences to the victims’ families. Herford said his department expects deputies to uphold higher standards of conduct, even when they are not working. Toxicology results have not been announced, and the crash remains under investigation. Havens is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
